I’d been feeling pretty crappy today, so when Elizabeth and I took a walk to run some errands, I was delighted to see the local taco truck make its first appearance of 2009. Located on the corner of Dyckman St. and Sherman Ave. way uptown in our neighborhood of Inwood, the taco truck is just one of the many awesome food carts and vendors located on the busy stretch of Dyckman (aka 200th St.).
I’d only had a chance to eat tacos from the taco truck once or twice before–and they were great–so I had to grab one today, even though I wasn’t really hungry. I decided to go all-out with a spicy pork taco, all the fixins, including spicy sauce, lettuce, tomato and guacamole. Oh, and it was good. Not the best pork taco and probably a little hampered by all the extra stuff, but the flavors were really solid. And I WILL be going back, quite a lot, over the next few months. Hooray tacos!
There are more photos on Flickr and we’ll post more about this taco truck as we experience all its wonders.

Taco trucks are almost ALWAYS better than a restaurant for tacos. If you want something like chili colorado then a sitdown spot is probably called for. At least that’s how I tend to do it. If I want tacos I go to a taco truck, anything else (unless it’s a torta) I just go to a sitdown place.

Ah, tacos … and really Mexican food in general. Since I’m originally from the southwest (Arizona), I really, really miss good Mexican food where I live now (Melbourne, Australia). It has its benefits tho’.

Oh noes! What do you eat if you can’t munch on tacos?!

Well, I make tacos at home, of course! But it’s just not the same as having it delivered on a lovely platter to your table surrounded by pinatas, murals and lots of people drinking margaritas and Corona on a hot summer day. Sniff. On the other hand, I have been introduced to some fantastic curry though. Yumo!

I am very loyal gringo customer of this sidewalk business. Highly recommended. I almost always get “bisteak”(?), and the flavor/seasoning is delightful. The only thing I find odd, and this happens at other, similar stands/windows, is that some customers will chow-down right on the spot, which means the exact same shelf/ledge where orders are taken. Maybe it’s cultural, but no matter how hungry I am, I’ll still take my order to the nearest park bench or shade tree.
